Retro Roller Skate Pop Art Painting on Square Canvas

£520.00

This painting shows a pair of classic 1980s retro roller skates against a brick wall. I didn't personally own skates like these but I'm pretty sure that my older sisters did, and I've seen lots of similar pairs at vintage markets since then. I always loved the colourful, simple and optimistic design of this type of skate, making it a perfect subject for my style of painting. As ever, I'm aiming for a flat and bold 'graphic' style rather than realism, a style influenced by modern graphic design and the classic pop artists of the 60s.

This is part of a series of paintings I completed in the summer of 2019 around the theme of discontinued foods, retro tech, and vintage design. A celebration of failed product launches, beautiful but outdated technology, and banned snacks, the paintings were originally completed for at exhibition in Hackney Wick, London.

It was made using acrylic paint and Posca paint pens on a large square canvas. See pictures of me holding it to get an idea of the size.
